Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
